The Zurich Children's Hospital is an essential part of the healthcare system in the city and canton of Zurich. The previous children's hospital had long outgrown its capacity and had to rely on temporary facilities. The Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron convinced with their proposal for the construction of a child-friendly hospital. A central aspect of the new building was the optimal use of space. Capacity bottlenecks in the employee locker rooms due to staff growth called for a space-saving and user-friendly locker solution.

Zippsafe is the perfect solution
Zippsafe offers the perfect solution that meets both requirements. The locker systems impress with maximum space utilization. The textile bags replace conventional, bulky lockers and thus save valuable usable space. Zurich Children's Hospital opted for the digital version, including online management. The bags can be operated using the integrated RFID reader with the employee badge and are managed using the ZippManager software. The digital interface provides an overview of the occupancy of the systems and makes it easy to allocate the locker bags.
1,155 new changing stations
The construction of the new children's hospital is considered a flagship project by the renowned Swiss architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron. Innovation and sustainability are the focus of the entire construction planning and contribute to modern healthcare. The new construction consists of two buildings: the hospital and a building for research and teaching. In the hospital building, 77 Zippsafe systems with 1,155 bags were installed to meet the increasing demand for changing stations. Thanks to the space-saving properties of Zippsafe, the limited space could be optimally utilized.

All challenges mastered
As with any large-scale project, there were hurdles that were successfully managed. Coordination with one of Zurich's largest construction sites proved to be a challenge. Close cooperation with the construction managers ensured that the Zippsafe systems were installed and commissioned on schedule.
